Zach hanya mengetahui bahwa Hannah memiliki ayah yang sangat misterius yang bernama R. L. Stine (Jack Black). Ayah Hannah adalah seorang penulis buku seri terpopuler berjudul Goosebumps. Stine memiliki sifat yang sangat aneh karena dia menjadi “korban” dari imajinasinya sendiri.
Seluruh monster dari buku-bukunya yang ditulisnya adalah nyata. Untuk melindungi pembacanya Stine selalu menjaga semua monster tetap terkurung dalam buku-bukunya. Suatu ketika Zach tidak sengaja mengeluarkan monster dari sebuah naskah, monster tersebut mulai menteror kota.
